LINC Housing Expands Its Sustainability Work
Samara Larson Joins LINC as Director of Sustainability

LONG BEACH, Calif., Jan. 27, 2014 — LINC Housing welcomes Samara Larson as director of sustainability, a new position that further demonstrates LINC’s commitment to “greening” multifamily rental communities. The position is funded in part by the Citi Innovation Fund grant LINC received late last year.

“Samara's experience is a perfect match with our mission,” said Hunter L. Johnson, LINC’s president and CEO. “Her leadership, knowledge of utility incentives, and construction management skills in the green retrofit of UC Irvine’s campus will translate well in helping us analyze and retrofit LINC’s portfolio of properties as well as the portfolios of other apartment owners.”

Larson will manage the day-to-day operations of SEED Partners, LLC, an energy services social enterprise established by LINC in 2012. Since its inception, SEED has focused on sustainable retrofits of LINC’s expanding portfolio. With experience gained, appropriate financial tools, and measurement and verification models, SEED will help other owners with retrofitting their properties. Each retrofitted property will become more energy efficient, and support a “quadruple bottom line” that reduces residents’ utility costs and creates healthier living conditions, saves building owners money on operations, benefits the environment by reducing each building’s carbon footprint, and helps California meet its goal of reducing green house gasses to 1990 levels.

Prior to joining LINC, Larson managed the Southern California utility programs for Enovity, Inc. She also spent several years at the University of California, Irvine, serving in various positions including director of strategic planning and assistant director of facilities management. She holds an MBA from University of California, Irvine, a bachelor’s degree in architecture from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and she is a Leadership in Energy And Environmental Design (LEED) accredited professional. Larson is also a registered architect in California.

“I’m excited to bring my experience in private and public sector energy efficiency and construction work to the LINC team,” said Larson, a resident of Orange. “I’m looking forward to the opportunity to work with owners and residents to improve their properties and living environments.”
